Most people know DNA as a double helix. Two strands twisted around each other, carrying the genetic blueprint of the body. That is the physical layer. But there is an older question that surfaces in various traditions: Does DNA also carry information that extends beyond the physical body?
The Physical DNA: What Biology Knows
Human DNA consists of two strands forming a double helix. It contains roughly 20,000 to 25,000 genes that code for proteins. That is the part molecular biology understands well.
What is less widely known: only about 2 per cent of DNA actually codes for proteins. The remaining 98 per cent was long labelled junk DNA, biological deadweight with no function. That assessment has changed fundamentally. The ENCODE Project, an international research programme, demonstrated that large portions of this non-coding DNA serve regulatory functions. They control when and how genes are activated. They are not ballast. They are conductors.
Epigenetics has opened yet another layer. Genes can be switched on or off by environmental factors, nutrition, stress, and even emotional states, without the DNA sequence itself changing. The code stays the same. But which parts of it are being read shifts constantly.
The Concept of Energetic DNA Strands
In various spiritual and energetic traditions, DNA is understood to exist not only physically but also on a subtle level. The idea: beyond the two physical strands, additional non-physical strands carry information on a different plane.
Some traditions speak of 12 strands, others of 24 or more. The numbers vary. What runs through all of them is the notion that humans do not utilise their full informational potential. That parts of these strands lie dormant. And that they can be activated through consciousness work, meditation, or energetic processes.
It is important to be honest here: this concept is not scientifically proven. No laboratory test can detect subtle DNA strands. What does exist is a body of experiential reports from people who describe shifts in perception, intuition, or physical wellbeing following energetic work.
Activation: What It Actually Means
When people speak of DNA activation, they do not mean a mechanical process. It is not about flipping a switch. The term describes something closer to an awakening. Much as a muscle that has not been used for a long time can be retrained, it is about reactivating capacities that are present but not active.
In practice, people commonly report the following after DNA activation:
Heightened intuition. Decisions feel clearer without additional information being available.
Increased sensitivity. Awareness of subtle energies, moods, or bodily signals grows.
Physical changes. Sleep patterns shift, dietary needs change, old complaints surface and resolve.
Emotional processing. Themes that were suppressed for a long time come to the surface, often without an obvious trigger.
These reports are subjective. But they recur with a consistency that is difficult to dismiss.
DNA Activation and Consciousness
An interesting connection exists between the number of activated DNA strands and the level of consciousness. People whose scan shows higher DNA activation tend to also register a higher consciousness level on the Hawkins scale.
This does not mean one causes the other. It means both aspects correlate. Consciousness work appears to support DNA activation. And higher DNA activation appears to facilitate access to expanded states of awareness.
The chakras also play a role. Blocked energy centres can inhibit the flow of information through the subtle strands. An open, well-flowing chakra system seems to be a precondition for deeper DNA activation.
What a Biofield Scan Shows About Your DNA
As part of a biofield scan, the number of energetically active DNA strands is assessed. This is not a physical measurement. It is a placement on the subtle level, based on the overall picture of the energy field.
The value never stands alone. It is considered alongside the auric field, the chakras, and the consciousness level. A person with 5 active strands, a strong heart chakra, and a Hawkins level of 400 paints a different picture than someone with the same strand count but a blocked solar plexus and a level of 250.
The aim is not to reach a high number. It is to understand where you stand right now. And perhaps to recognise that there is more than the physical eye can capture.
