Your energy field is like a river. When it flows freely, you feel alive, clear, and connected. When something dams the flow, you notice. Perhaps not immediately. Perhaps not consciously. But your body feels it, your mood shows it, and eventually your life circumstances show it too. In energy work, these dams are called chakra blockages.
What is a chakra blockage?
A blockage means that energy in a specific chakra does not flow freely. This can have various causes: unprocessed emotions, old beliefs, traumatic experiences, or simply years of habitual patterns that have solidified in the energy field.
Important to understand: A blockage is not a defect. It is a protective mechanism. At some point your system decided it was safer to throttle energy at that point. That may have been correct at the time. The question is whether it is still necessary today.
Blockages can manifest in two ways: As underactivity, when too little energy flows. Or as overactivity, when a chakra compensates by drawing too much energy. Both are imbalances.
The 7 chakras and typical blockages
Root Chakra (Muladhara): Located at the base of the spine, it represents safety, grounding, and survival. A blockage here shows up as chronic anxiety, financial insecurity, or the feeling of not belonging anywhere. Physically it can manifest in the legs, feet, or lower back. People with a blocked root chakra often live in survival mode.
Sacral Chakra (Svadhisthana): Located in the lower abdomen, it represents creativity, emotions, and sensuality. Blockages appear as emotional numbness, guilt around pleasure, or difficulty allowing closeness. Physically it often affects the lower abdomen and reproductive organs. Those blocked here have often lost access to their own feelings.
Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura): Located in the upper abdomen, it represents willpower, self-worth, and personal power. Blockages show up as a need for control, perfectionism, or the opposite: complete loss of drive and self-confidence. Stomach problems and digestive issues are common physical companions. Those blocked here either let others dictate their lives or try to control everything.
Heart Chakra (Anahata): Located in the centre of the chest, it represents love, compassion, and connection. Blockages appear as inability to forgive, fear of vulnerability, or emotional shutting down. Physically it affects the heart, lungs, and chest area. A blocked heart chakra protects against pain, but it also protects against love.
Throat Chakra (Vishuddha): Located in the throat area, it represents communication, expression, and truth. Blockages show up as difficulty speaking one's mind, chronically swallowing feelings, or the opposite: talking without stop yet saying nothing real. Sore throats and thyroid issues can be physical signs.
Third Eye Chakra (Ajna): Located between the eyebrows, it represents intuition, clarity, and inner seeing. Blockages appear as excessive rumination, being stuck in the head, or loss of access to one's own intuition. Headaches and eye problems can accompany this. Those blocked here rely exclusively on the intellect and ignore quieter signals.
Crown Chakra (Sahasrara): Located at the top of the head, it represents spirituality, connection to the whole, and higher consciousness. Blockages show up as a feeling of meaninglessness, being cut off from something larger, or spiritual disillusionment. The opposite, overactivity, appears as spiritual arrogance or detachment from reality. Balance here means staying grounded while remaining open to what lies beyond the material.
How do you recognise blockages in daily life?
Blockages are rarely obvious. They disguise themselves. A blocked heart chakra does not feel like a blockage. It feels like: "That is just who I am. I don't let everyone in." A blocked solar plexus chakra feels like: "I'm just a perfectionist." The blockage becomes part of the identity.
Watch for recurring patterns. The same conflicts in different relationships. The same fears across different areas of life. The same physical complaints that come and go. Patterns repeat until the underlying blockage is resolved.
Also pay attention to areas you avoid. What triggers you the most often points to where the blockage sits. Not always. But often enough to take a closer look.
What a biofield scan shows
A biofield scan reads your energy field and shows you which chakras are working freely and which are blocked. It also shows whether a blockage presents as over- or underactivity. And it can offer clues about what themes lie behind the blockage.
This does not replace therapy. But it gives you a map. Knowing where the blockage sits is the first step. The second is engaging with it. Whether through meditation, bodywork, conversation, or simply through the willingness to look.
Your energy field tells a story. Not in words, but in flow and stagnation. And it is worth knowing that story.
