Some people see colours around other people. Not metaphorically, but actually. In the tradition of energy work, these colours are called the aura. They are said to make the current energetic state of a person visible. Each colour carries its own meaning.

What is an aura?

The aura is the energy field surrounding your physical body. Different traditions describe it differently. In Vedic teaching, it is part of the subtle body. In Theosophy, it is divided into several layers: etheric, emotional, mental, spiritual. In modern energy work, it is often perceived as a coloured field.

Not everyone can see auras. Some perceive them as colour, others as feeling, still others as a temperature difference. There are also technical methods such as Kirlian photography that make energy fields visible, though their validity is scientifically disputed.

What is not disputed: That humans radiate energy. Everyone knows the feeling of entering a room and instantly sensing the mood. Whether you call that an aura or nonverbal communication is ultimately a question of language.

The key aura colours and their meaning

Red: The colour of physical energy, passion, and survival instinct. A strong red aura appears in people with high vitality and assertiveness. Muddy red can indicate suppressed anger or exhaustion. Red is the colour of the root chakra and the direct connection to the earth.

Orange: Creativity, emotion, and sensuality. People with a strong orange aura are often artistically gifted, sociable, and emotionally open. They enjoy life with all their senses. Muddy orange can indicate emotional overload or addictive patterns. Orange is the colour of the sacral chakra.

Yellow: Intellect, willpower, and joy of life. A clear yellow aura appears in people with sharp minds and natural optimism. They are often good communicators and quick thinkers. Muddy yellow can indicate a need for control or mental exhaustion. Yellow belongs to the solar plexus chakra.

Green: Healing, growth, and kindness of heart. Green is the colour of the heart chakra. People with a strong green aura are often natural healers, therapists, or teachers. They bring calm to turbulent environments. Muddy green can indicate jealousy or holding on to past injuries.

Blue: Communication, truth, and inner calm. Blue belongs to the throat chakra and appears in people who communicate clearly and honestly. A strong blue aura points to integrity and the ability to listen. Muddy blue can indicate communication blockages or suppressed truths.

Indigo: Intuition, foresight, and inner knowing. The colour of the third eye. People with a strong indigo aura often have pronounced intuition and the ability to see beneath the surface. They sense things before they happen. Muddy indigo can indicate overthinking or loss of access to one's own intuition.

Violet: Spirituality, transformation, and higher consciousness. Violet is the colour of the crown chakra. It appears in people with a strong connection to the spiritual or those in a phase of deep transformation. Muddy violet can indicate spiritual arrogance or flight from the material world.

White: Purity, protection, and high vibration. A rare aura colour pointing to a state of particular clarity or spiritual maturity. White contains all colours. People with a white aura are often described as holy or enlightened, though caution is warranted: Not everyone radiating white has reached this state permanently.

Can aura colours change?

Yes. The aura is not static. It shifts with your emotional state, your health, your thoughts, and your spiritual development. It can look different in the morning than in the evening. Different after meditation than after an argument.

Most people have one or two predominant colours that run through their lives. This is the base colour of the aura. Over it lie shifting tones that reflect the current state.

Long-term changes in aura colour indicate development. Someone who does inner work over years will often observe a shift from denser colours (red, orange) to lighter ones (blue, violet). This is not a judgement. Red is not worse than violet. It is a different state.

How a biofield scan reads your aura

A biofield scan maps your energy field without requiring an aura reader. It shows you where your energy flows strongly, where it is blocked, and what qualities your field currently holds.

This is more useful than a single colour assignment because the scan captures the entire spectrum. It shows not just the predominant colour but also the layers beneath. Where does the blockage sit? In which area does energy flow freely? What themes are working beneath the surface?

You do not need to see aura colours to benefit from this information. The scan reads what the field shows. And the field shows more than the eye can see.
